Thousands of young people will take to the sky on Saturday, June 8, as EAA volunteers continue an outstanding aviation tradition - International Young Eagles Day. The 20th annual event brings together kids and pilots as part of the EAA Young Eagles program, the largest, most successful youth aviation education program ever created across the nation.
The Shelby County EAA Chapter at the Calera Airport- EET will sponsor a Young
Eagles Day when kids ages 8-17 Fly Free. Pick up an early registration form at
the airport, fill it out, parents sign and bring with you on the day of your
flight. Flights will be at 10am, 11am, Noon and 1pm and last 20 minutes. To
schedule a flight, contact Johnny Ward at 205.914.5984. Activities for kids
under 8 and hot dogs and drinks will be available.
Since its founding in 1992, EAA's Young Eagles program has provided more than
1.7 million free flights to young people age 8-17 around the world through the
efforts of 45,000 volunteer pilots and 50,000 ground volunteers. The program is
a focal point within EAA's mission of growing participation in aviation. -Staff
