RENO NV- During the 50th Reno Air Race, one big change in leaders came Thursday in the T-6 Gold Heat. Leader Nick Macy was piloting "Six-Cat," and right after the start of the race on the first turn, had a mayday. His engine had seized but with some great flying skill, he pulled up and then came in deadstick for a perfect landing. Unfortunately though, he is out of the race putting Dennis Buehn in #43 in the number one spot.

Macy has won the championship six times since 1999, while Buehn has won it three. Buehn has been racing T-6 planes in Reno since 1971, and Macy is marking his 25th year at the races.  But with the engine problems this was not his lucky year. Midnight Miss III, #43, did take the Gold this year. But instead of packing up and going home, the "Six Cat" crew, pit neighbors to "Big Red" #5 held a champagne party to celebrate milestones and friendship of each team.
