-Jefferson County Sheriff Mike Hale spoke to the Birmingham Aero Club Thurdsday evening at the Southern Museum of Flight-

Sheriff Hale recalled an earlier time before the county's financial crises when the department invested in a computer system that now helps them to do more  crime fighting with fewer personnel.  That computer system has helped set up a system of catching identity fraud perpetrators, tracking sexual predators and locating illegal drugs. Partnering the Aviation division with Hoover Police has been a win- win for sustaining the aircraft and personnel. One of the most successful strategies has been using the helicopter for surveillance, crime prevention and to catch criminals. This strategy reduced crime in one community almost 30 percent.

Sheriff Hale was born and raised in Birmingham is married with three grown children and numerous grandchildren. He has served in law enforcement for 38 years and is currently in his fourth elected term as Jefferson County Sheriff. -B Meyer, FMI: JeffCoSheriff
