JACKSON MS - Officials with the Jackson Municipal Airport
Authority said the 50th Anniversary Airshow, scheduled for May 11-12, 2013 has
been canceled, according to WALA.
Officials said the Airshow was set to feature the United
States Navy's Blue Angels, the United States Army Special Forces "Black
Daggers" and other military and civilian demonstrations and educational
exhibits.
"In consideration of the amount of time, effort, funding and community support that JMAA relies on to provide an event of this caliber; we have chosen to cancel this year's airshow," said Dirk Vanderleest, CEO of the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority. "We are very pleased with the amount of support JMAA received from our corporate sponsors, our community and business partners, and wish to extend our gratitude to them."
Organizers said the cancellation is due to the uncertainty surrounding the continued impacts of the federal budget sequestration requirements, availability of support from the various participants, and other funding issues, on the local and national level, indicate that JMAA's best course of action is to cancel the show.
