BIRMINGHAM AL- Above the Treetops is the true story of internationally acclaimed novelist William Faulkner's heartwarming relationship with a young boy named Bobby Little, who grew up in Oxford, Mississippi.
The book opens with Faulkner taking the five-year-old Bobby up in his red Waco C cabin cruiser. They fly just above the treetops - over Oxford, over the Ole Miss campus, and over the surrounding countryside - giving the young boy a wondrous view of the world and sparking in him a lifelong love for the enchantment of flight.
From the Book's Prologue The shadows stretched as he rode, glints of sunlight dropping deeper and deeper between the trees, causing the landscape to change and seemingly bend before his eyes. Finally, the sun sent out a shaft of colors from beyond the horizon, signaling an end to this remarkable day. And in that magical moment of gloaming, when the colors came alive and the world was beheld in breathless wonder, when the feathery cottonwood seeds drifted down like falling snow and the first fireflies of the night sparkled around him, Bobby released the handlebars of his bike, stretched out his arms, and glided as if on air. He had flown above the earth, and he knew that his life would never be the same.
