OZARK AL- Blackwell Field hosted nearly 30 aircraft and thousands of aviation fans on Saturday, according to an airport official. The annual Biplane Fly In drew crowds estimated of two thousand, many more than last year.
What started in 2003 as an all Pitts aircraft event to honor the inventor Curtis Pitts is a biplane event that now draws the Waco, Stearman and Starduster in addition to the Pitts and many others. New activities and features included; helicopter rides, skydivers and a radio control demo with fixed wing and model helicopters.
A variety of food vendors, one with a Cajun flair, helicopter demonstrations and kids activities expanded the event schedule at the airport this year. Biplanes from several states attended an evening get together with fun trophies for the longest distance flown. -B Meyer, Images special to Alabama Aviator.
