Belle Chasse LA- From a new facility building, Southern Seaplane Inc. announces their FAA Part 141 Seaplane Add-on Rating Course. This most recent milestone marks the only civilian Part 141 seaplane additional rating course in the contiguous U.S. An official FAA presentation ceremony was held June 29, recognizing the first certification followed by a tour of the new operations center.
Presenting the certificate, Mr. Brian Capone, Manager- Baton Rouge FSDO, told the gathering, "General Aviation is a tough business to be in, it has its good times and bad times. Another milestone of this third generation company since 1954 is to be commended. Being able to diversify with air tours and such, and to continue on, is a testament to the good people that are here doing it."

"You have evolved, Dad [Phil Panepinto, founder] and the whole crew, trained most of the seaplane pilots in the area. You have been around and it's time to impart all that knowledge. Congratulations on another milestone: In recognition of steadfast seaplane safety training culminating in the establishment of the Seaplane Safety Institute and Title 14 CFR Part 141 Seaplane Pilot School." Mr. Capone presented Southern Seaplane Inc an FAA and FAASTeam certificate of achievement.
President and Director of Operations at Southern Seaplane Inc, Lyle Panepinto with over 18,000 hours and 30 years of experience said, "We have been trying to do this 141 [seaplane] school for awhile, we wanted to do something different, more than just getting the rating - it's time somebody does it. Most of the credit to get here is due to Lacey Panepinto Charvet and her work on this certificate."
Located on the westbank of the Mississippi River across from downtown New Orleans, Southern Seaplanes Inc is the largest seaplane operation in the entire gulf south, in business since 1954. The new facility boasts over 3,500 sq feet of lobby, operations and modern training room. The operations center includes new security fencing and additional customer parking.
