Birmingham Air Safety Foundation Scholarship Awards 2012

The Birmingham Air Safety Foundation via the Thurston W. Sumner Flight Education Program is pleased to announce Flight Scholarship winners for 2012. Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 were recently awarded to the following six individuals:

Arthur Jackson (AJ) Ramey, Jr. - Tuscaloosa, Al. A recent graduate of the University of Alabama, AJ currently holds a Commercial Certificate with Instrument Rating along with a highperformance endorsement. He previously served as Alabama Branch Director for Angel Flight Soars in Tuscaloosa and will using his scholarship to pursue a Flight Instructor Certificate.

Dallas Key - Hoover, Al. A 2010 graduate of Hoover High School, Dallas currently holds a Commercial Certificate with Instrument Rating as well as a Flight Instructor Certificate. He is an active Flight Instructor in Birmingham and will be pursuing Instrument Instructor and Multi-Engine Instructor ratings with his scholarship.

Gage L. Hazelwood - Pell City, Al. A graduate of Pell City High School, Gage is pursuing certification as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician. He is currently enrolled at Albertville Aviation College and will be using his scholarship funds to complete his AMT certification.

Casey Henderson - Hoover, Al. A 2012 graduate of Hoover's Spain Park High School, Casey currently holds a Private Pilot certificate with Instrument Rating. He will be pursing a Commercial Certificate with his scholarship award and will be attending Auburn University in the Fall of 2012.

Forrest Winkle - Vestavia Hills, Al. A 2009 graduate of Vestavia Hills High School, Forrest is currently enrolled in the Professional Flight Management Program at Auburn University. With his scholarship award, Forrest will be pursuing his Instrument Rating.

Dustin Corey- Pinson, Al. A graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Dustin first soloed at sixteen years of age and has since received his Private Pilot Certificate. Having recently passed his Instrument written examination, he will be pursuing an Instrument Rating with his scholarship funds.

About the Thurston W. Sumner Flight Education Program- The Thurston W. Sumner Flight Education Program was established by the family of the late Thurston W. Sumner in memory of one who was, for many years, a great leader and friend of the Birmingham Aero Club, and was the architect of the Southern Museum of Flight. The sole purpose of the fund is for the education of qualified people in aviation and its related fields of activity. The fund is administrated, with qualified applicants being selected by, the Birmingham Air Safety Foundation Board of Governors. FMI: The Birmingham Aero Club
