WETUMPKA AL- Flowers are budding, grass is turning green- get ready for the biggest and best Young Eagles event in Alabama- Wetumpka's Spring Fly In. For over a decade, every year, the airport transforms into an April festival celebrating aviation with activities to delight and inspire youth.
-2012 Wetumpka Spring Fly In will be on Saturday, April 28
Experimental Aircraft Association, EAA Chapter 822, volunteers have flown over 1,000 free Young Eagle flights with boys and girls between the ages of 8-17. Last year alone, they flew 165. The group has perfected the recipe for attracting both pilots and interested youth to spend the day aviating at the Wetumpka Airport in an ideal General Aviation airport setting.
Area pilots unite with a friendly fly in and activities are plentiful for the young and young -at- heart. With pony rides, face painting, outstanding costumed heroes by Party Palace Characters and static displays- there is fun for the entire family. Food and beverages are also available on site.
Young Eagles can buckle up for their first 15-20 minute flight with an EAA volunteer pilot and earn a personalized certificate and logbook signed by their pilot. Each Young Eagle will have their name added to the world's largest logbook at EAA Young Eagles HQ. The Experimental Aircraft Association sponsors this, chance of a lifetime, as an educational program.
