BIRMINGHAM AL- On February 2, 2012, the newly restored Banks High School mascot, an F-86, made its debut when moved from the restoration hangar for exhibition in front of the Southern Museum of Flight. While Bucky Woods and many of his Banks alumni clan were present for the event, there was talk about plans for building a memorial wall to accompany the jet.

Alumni Larry Camp is leading the project for the Banks Jet monument adjacent to the F-86. A design by Gary Nash of FormWorks includes twin pillars, one will record the jets history as a Banks Mascot and the other the as a USAF Military Jet. Museum Director, Jim Griffin says the construction portion should be completed within a few more days. A dedication ceremony is planned for the entire project in late spring. -B Meyer, FMI: Related article
