NAS PENSACOLA -- The
Naval Aviation Museum is back open to the public. It was shut down for more
than two weeks during the government shutdown. The museum relies on about 400
volunteers as tour guides, theater management and other duties. However is also
employs about 80 federal workers who run everything from security to the
electrical system. They were furloughed October 1st because of the partial
federal government shutdown.
-50th Anniversary events were canceled for this year due to closing the museum during the government shutdown, however the Naval Aviation Museum is now reopened.-
The celebration events, including a black-tie fundraising dinner, special tours and exhibits is now being planned for sometime in "the first half of next year," Ragsdale said. The museum's 50th Anniversary Celebration events were canceled because of the closing. They have not been rescheduled yet. More information as it becomes available.
