Montgomery ALABAMA-The Academy of Model Aeronautics is pleased to announce that the state of Alabama, led by Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley, has declared August 17, 2013, as Model Aviation Day. National Model Aviation Day has been established by the Academy of Model Aeronautics-the country's foremost organization for model aviation-to celebrate the history of model aviation and to promote the hobby on a national scale. The Academy will celebrate Indiana Model Aviation Day at its national headquarters in Muncie IN, along with AMA chartered clubs across the country.
The Alabama clubs participating in the event include: the West Alabama Aero Modelers of Tuscaloosa, the DeKalb R/C Flyers of Ft. Payne, the Rocket City Radio Controllers of Huntsville, and the Radio Aero Modelers of Montgomery.
Each of the participating clubs will promote model aviation, and the many benefits of participating in the hobby. The clubs will also be holding fundraisers to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. This organization aims to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members.
The celebration at the local flying sites will include flight demonstrations, static displays, hands-on activities, refreshments and an opportunity to experience radio control flight first hand.
