IRVINGTON AL- This Saturday will be the time to visit"Forrest Gump" territory, that is Bayou
La Batre and Irvington, for uniquely Alabama events. Pilots will gather at
historic Roy E Ray airport-5R7 as they have for over a decade for the first
weekend in May grass field Fly In. Friday, May 3 will feature an evening of
Hooter's Chicken Wings to welcome to early arrivals.

Look for old fashioned homemade ice cream and sandwiches for sale on Saturday with lots of aircarft to review, friends to meet and hangar flying. Saturday night will feature a BBQ and Shrimp or Crawfish dinner with live band entertainment and dancing. Sunday everyone leaves to fly home already looking forward to next year. BAYOU LA BATRE AL- Only a few miles down the road is the 64th Annual Blessing of the Fleet on May 4 and 5. Highlights include: Gumbo Cook Off, Decorated Boat Contest, Fleet Blessing Quilt Winner and Cash Raffles, Exhibits, street parade and a fun run. All events are held on the Church Grounds at St. Margaret's Catholic Church, 13790 South Wintzell Avenue. If flying to the Blessing of the Fleet, suggest either Mobile or St. Elmo airport with a car and hotel reservation confirmed in advance.
