these fresh spring aviation events. The quality and quantity of fun places to
fly in April is but a forerunner to the huge selection coming next month. Don't
miss a single one of your favorite Alabama Aviation events.
Time flies, it's already the 5th Annual Vaiden Fly In. It seems like yesterday when Bill Hansen and some University of Alabama student volunteers joined forces to bring attention the Marion Airport that brought so many improvements. Co-hosted by the Marion Military Institute, Flying Tigers cadet students, come and enjoy aircraft of all types and grilled dogs and burgers. Fly In and meet the students on Saturday April 6, from 9-3.
The 5th Annual Enterprise Alabama Aviation Expo held on Saturday, April 20, has great displays; rain date will be April 27th! This family oriented event showcases numerous aircraft from throughout the Southeast, and is not to be missed. Tickets are just $5 for adults, and children under 12 are FREE-what a deal!During the day they will have various fly-bys, demonstrations, aerobatics, musical entertainment, food and craft vendors, as well as some lucky folks will actually have the opportunity to fly in an airplane or helicopter!
A favorite and the largest Young Eagle events in the state is the Wetumpka Spring Fly In on April 27. EAA Chapter 822 has flown hundreds of youth for free and introduced kids from 8-17 to flight. Even the small ones can "fly" in a kid simulator. Food, displays and family fun for all ages is at historic Wetumpka Airport.
Not far from Alabama is the 39th Annual "Spring Break for Pilots", Sun N Fun in Lakeland, Florida from April 9-14. Usually the first large aviation event of the year, Sun N Fun always has everything you could want to see in aviation. While in the area, check out the Seabirds Splash In at Fantasy of Flight on April 11, you will be glad you did.
One last time to give tribute to the remaining Doolittle Raiders at their 71st Reunion in Fort Walton, Florida starting on April 17-20. There are several public events scheduled including a military parade featuring the "Raiders" on Saturday.
The City of DeFuniak Springs brings you the Marvel of Flight Fly In and Aviation Expo on April 27. This family friendly community celebration of aviation is a joint partnership between the City of DeFuniak Springs and the Walton Area Chamber of Commerce. Over the course of the last two years Marvel of Flight has doubled in size and scale, while becoming the signature community festival for the City of DeFuniak Springs and surrounding areas.
Wanting something a little closer to home? Regular scheduled fly ins at Brewton on April 6th, Guntersville on April 13 and Moontown on April 20 will be serving breakfast and fun for you.
