BIRMINGHAM AL- The mission of the General Aviation Awards program is to recognize individual aviation professionals on the local, regional, and national levels for their contributions to aviation, education, and flight safety.
The General Aviation Awards Program is a cooperative effort between the Federal Aviation Administration and aviation industry sponsors to recognize annually outstanding individuals in the fields of Avionics, Flight Instruction, and Maintenance. In addition, the program recognizes outstanding individuals serving the FAA Safety Team (FAASTeam) as representatives.
The awards highlight the important roles these individuals play in promoting aviation safety, education, and professionalism. Winners are recognized locally, regionally and nationally. National winners are recognized during AirVenture-Oshkosh each July. There, they will receive gifts and merchandise provided by sponsors and contributors.
FAASTeam Program Manager, William Hattaway announced local, District winners as, Charles "Chuck" Ebbecke- FAASTeam Representative of the Year and Ken Gillilan- Aviation Maintenance Technician of the Year.
Chuck Ebbecke is the Lead FAASTeam Representative in Destin, Florida with a 48-year aviation affiliation, a NAFI Mentor, Master CFI and educator. He was the Eastern Region CFI of the Year before relocating in Florida.
Ken Gillilan is the AMT of the Year from Clanton, Alabama. He is the chief Maintenance Officer for B&G Flying Service with 20 years of maintenance experience.
