Upcoming Alabama Aviation Events

Ah, October is an active aviation event month in Alabama, running a close second only to the busiest month of May. Fall events offer a festival atmosphere that welcomes the change from hot to more comfortable outdoor weather. The month is loaded with events of every kind. This first week in October offers a unique schedule across the state that will get you out to the airport and thinking of flying.




Scheduled to arrive at the Dothan Airport on October 1st  thru October 8th is EAA's B-17 Bomber- The Aluminum Overcast in a "A Tribute to the WIREGRASS".   Open to the public: October 5th, 6th, & 7th you can book a mission flight or tour onboard the historic WWII aircraft. This stop on the B-17 tour is sponsored by EAA Chapter 1358.  To Book a flight call 1-800-359-6217. ENTER to WIN a FLIGHT: Raffle Tickets for a Mission Flight available from EAA Chapter members for $10.00. 1,000 tickets to be sold. Ten mission flights to be awarded. This Thursday night, October 4, the Southern Museum of Flight in Birmingham is hosting a benefit Swing Dance among the exhibits. The event features a live Dance band with a dance instructor, silent auction and door prizes with beverages and snacks available. General admission is $25 per couple, $15 singles, $10 student and military, opens at 6:30pm. Contact 205-833-8226 for advance ticket discount.

On October 4 in Huntsville, the latest AOPA Safety program stops at the University of Huntsville. A free program by AOPA specialist, "Flying for a Lifetime" opens at 7:00 in the Chan Auditorium. No reservation is required.

Saturday, October 6 is the Annual City of Guntersville Splash-In. Featuring fun, food vendors and seaplanes from near and far at Guntersville Airport. Visit the seaplane friendly community and see all types of float and amphibious aircraft. Contact: 256/582-6087 for more information.
