Spring Alabama Aviation Events Blooming

- Edited for clarity 3/22- Official Spring is here with a new airshow season and aviation events that aspire to inspire, entertain and delight.  Alabama offers a full schedule of flying fun this year so you don't have to travel far very from home. It's all right here, no matter if you just love airports and airplanes, fly ins, air shows or aviation history. Springtime is flying time here in Sweet Home Alabama.



Headlining the Tuscaloosa Air Show is the US Navy Blue Angels and the US Army Golden Knights opening on March 31 through April 1. From Jasper, Alabama, Joey "Gordo" Sanders will perform in his Big Red, the Roll Tide T-6, Reno Air Race champion. This premier event features top aerobatic acts with a huge static display and free admission for family entertainment. Themed "Honoring Our Heroes", cheer Alabama's own Blue Angel #6, as LT Dave Tickle flys his USN Hornet as the Opposing Solo.



Gulf Shores, Jack Edwards National Airport is hosting the Second Annual Aviation Day on Saturday, April 14th. The two-day affair includes a Friday youth education day with activities to inspire and introduce experiences in flying and aviation careers. Saturday, the event is open to the public with military static displays, National Flight Academy Simulator, WW II FU Corsair, various Aviation Vendors, School Competition Awards and much more.


Home of the Marion Military Institute Flying Tigers, Vaiden Field, 8A0, will hold their 4th Annual Fly In on Saturday, April 14. See all the airport improvements and meet the MMI Flying Tiger cadets.  War Birds, Vintage and Experimental aircraft will gather for fun, food and flying from 9:00 to 3:00. Fuel available.

 The Shelby County Aviation Association is hosting a Weather Safety Seminar Fly In at EET on Saturday, April 21 starting at 9:00am. Be prepared for flying in spring's Extreme Weather Patterns with a program followed with a group tour of their neighbor, National Weather Service Center. Fly In or drive in for the program and cookout lunch. Fuel available.


Wetumpka EAA 822 will host Alabama's largest Young Eagles' event at their Annual Spring Fly In on Saturday April 28 from 9:00 to 3:00. For over a decade, every year, the airport transforms into an April festival celebrating aviation with activities to delight and inspire youth. Area pilots unite with a friendly fly in and activities are plentiful for the young and young -at- heart. With pony rides, face painting, outstanding costumed heroes by Party Palace Characters and static displays- there is fun for the entire family.  Food and beverages are also available on site. Fuel available.

EAA 615 will host their Spring Fly In on April 28 from 10:00 to 5:00 at Muscle Shoals- MSL. Hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks will be available with fun flying. Static displays of RVs, the Red Star Team and more!

Don't forget to enjoy EAA Breakfast fly ins at Guntersville and Moontown on the second and third Saturdays.



Finally, in Lakeland, Florida is THE Spring Break for Pilots, Tuesday, March 27- Sunday, April 1, Sun N Fun. There's always something at SUN 'n FUN for everyone. Whether you're actively involved in aviation or an aviation enthusiast, SUN 'n FUN has an activity for just about every interest.
