Flight Education Program will be funding multiple scholarships up to $1,000 in 2012 for individuals pursuing aviation-related goals. These goals may include initial flight training, advanced ratings, Aircraft Maintenance Technician certification, and other aviation-related education.
Application: Applications will be accepted from February 15, 2012 through April 15, 2012. Applicants will be notified of the disposition of their application by May 15, 2012. Funds will be committed by May 31, 2012.
Eligibility: Scholarships are open to all ages and without regard to financial need. A candidate's selection is based on previous accomplishments within and outside of aviation. Written communication of a well-developed plan to achieve the individual's goal is a requirement for selection.
For those pursuing flight-training objectives, preference will be given to those who have completed any required written examinations. In addition, preference will be given to those with a connection to the Birmingham area (although training in the Birmingham area is not required).
Application Process: Prior to April 15, applicants should submit a document with the following information:
1. Contact information including: name, mailing address, e-mail address, and telephone number.
2. Description of specific aviation goal pursued.
3. A plan to achieve this goal including a schedule, flight school (if applicable), total estimated cost of program, and source(s) of other funding required to complete the objective.
4. Descriptions of previous accomplishments that demonstrate ability to set goals, develop plans, and achieve objectives. This can be aviation-related goals as well as accomplishments in other areas.
5. Connection to Birmingham area and Birmingham aviation community

Applications may also be submitted in writing via postal mail to Birmingham Aero Club, Scholarship Committee, 4343 North 73rd Street, Birmingham, AL 35206. Application Confirmation: Each applicant will receive a confirmation acknowledgment of their application within one week of submission and applicants will be notified of selection status by May 15, 2012.
